Program Notes: Matched Pairs is a work for two pianos written by Kyle W. Brown. This piece follows in the post-minimal tradition, exploring various techniques of this genre: static harmony, repeated ostinato patterns, and intricate textures. In the flanking sections of the piece, the two players are challenged with sounding like one individual. In the middle sections, the parts diverge to explore more complicated rhythmic and harmonic textures. In total, the interest of the piece lies in the various interactions of both pianists playing similar and disparate music.

This work is dedicated to Alex Shanafelt and Austin White.
