Program Notes: Melodie features a processed bassoon solo overtop fixed accompanimental segments that are triggered in real time during the performance. You’ll hear synths, basses, bells, pre-recorded bassoon sounds, and distorted voices. These sounds combine to create a haunting soundscape over which a mournful melody is performed. As the piece progresses, the acoustic bassoon sound is transformed in various ways using reverb, distortion, delay, and EQ effects to highlight the intent of each melody.
