Program Notes

Wayfarer places the listener on the road of a long journey. This journey starts from the creation of melodies out of small motives. These melodies and motives continue to develop and grow as the traveler continues onward. Eventually, these melodies coalesce into a tangible horizon that defines the scope of the trek. This trip consists of many different scenes that are all windows into distinct soundscapes. This work has many peaks and valleys through this imaginary journey that is meant to highlight self-discovery and serenity even despite adversity. The harmonic language is pandiatonic built around various rhythmic cells.

This work was written for the American Modern Ensemble and premiered at the 2018 Mostly Modern Festival at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.
